About the Item
Large, colourful, Mid Century French watercolour of a tablescape by Roger Decaux. Signed bottom left.
Roger DECAUX was born in 1919 in Dombasle sur Meurthe in the Lorraine. He studied art in Paris with Gino Severini and Jan Brusselmans then with Philippe Steinmetz.
He was interested in philospohy and inspired by many art forms. He is remembered as the co-founder of the University Theatre in Nancy and as a teacher in the 'Faculté de Lettres'.
He travelled widely whilst painting including Mexico and Switzerland where he also created frescoes, mosaics and stained glass. Known for his colour and his semi abstract forms.
